Good Hotel

GIVING THE UNEMPLOYED TOOLS AND TRAINING FOR SUCCESS

The Good Training program offers unemployed locals and illiterate single moms custom-made hospitality training and the chance to build a new future. After successfully completing our training program, trainees receive on-the-job experience and a full-time salary at Good Hotel, after which we offer support in helping them find a permanent job in the local hospitality industry.

WORKING WITH LOCAL BUSINESSES

Good Hotels are rooted in the local community. We source our ingredients, materials and labour locally from small business owners and craftsmen.

PREMIUM HOSPITALITY WITH A CAUSE

We believe in people. It’s actually that simple. We want to redefine the model of how business is done combining doing business with doing good with a best in class guest experience at the core. Our Good Hotels were founded by Good Group, a non–dividend company built on entrepreneurial spirit, and the belief that one day, all business should be sustainable and give back to the communities they are in.

EDUCATING CHILDREN

The profits of Good Hotel are invested in the education of disadvantaged children. We work with ‘Niños de Guatemala’, a Dutch–Guatemalan charity, focused on quality education and community development of low–income families and their children in the mountain villages around Antigua Guatemala.

 DONATING TO NGOs

For every direct booking made at Good Hotel, we donate $5 per night of your stay, to our charity partner, Niños de Guatemala.

THE FOUNDING OF NGO NINOS DE GUATEMALA

In April 2006, Marten wrote a letter to his family and friends. Describing the situation of Mirna and her family, Marten asked everyone he knew for their support. The support that came in response to this one email was overwhelming: more than 5000 Euros. Marten soon realized this was too much money for helping just Mirna and her family. This is where the plan started to build an elementary school that would give kids, like Mirna, access to education. He travelled back to the Netherlands and started fund–raising. Meanwhile, an NGO was founded in Antigua.

FIRST CLASS GRADUATES IN GUATEMALA

In October of 2014, the first class of 32 students graduated from elementary school – the first school that had been built. Thanks to Niños de Guatemala, these kids received quality education, nutrition and social guidance, and have now a real chance to build a better future.

OPENING GOOD HOTEL ANTIGUA

The construction of Good Hotel Antigua is completed and the 20–room boutique hotel opens its doors. A former mansion in the heart of Antigua has been transformed into a unique modern designed hotel, supporting local businesses and single moms, by offering them the unique Good Training program and job opportunities.

FACTS:

450 students from low–income families receive quality education each year.
80+ jobs are offered to local residents (not inclusive of social workers and volunteers).
Over 90% of Niños de Guatemala graduates move on to secondary education.
