Chickpeas in Honey

Chickpeas in honey are a traditional Guatemalan dessert, the time to eat them is inaugurated on November 1st, typically after a good plate of fiambre. Making them is easy, let the chickpeas sit in water; then drain and cook them in enough water, – the secret is to put in a pinch of baking soda so that later, it is easier to remove the skin – when the water starts to boil remove them from the heat and clean them. Then put them back in water, add Brown sugar or White sugar, cinnamon, a pinch of salt, a clove, a bell pepper, and a fig leaf; let it boil until the honey thickens. They serve cold.
