Café La Escalonia – Food and nursery garden in one

Surrounded and enclosed by greenery, La Escolonia somehow seems to have a reputation as a restaurant to hide with your amante or for that matter, to breakup with your amante.

Joking aside, Cafe de la Escolonia, a few blocks south of Central Park passed Meson Panza Verde, is an enchanting romantic hideaway a million miles from the bustle of central Antigua. Also, a plant nursery with a great array of indigenous plants, it’s a paradise.

IMG_5497As for the food, Cafe de la Escolonia is noted for its breakfasts and lunches. Using fresh herbs from their own herb garden the dishes are very well prepared. Both Guatemalan and western breakfasts are offered. For lunches, various appetizing soups, sandwiches and salads are offered.

Que Pasa recommends the Jazmin Pie; chicken breast with raisins and almonds in a bitter sweet soy sauce as well as the Cartucho sandwich which is turkey with sun dried tomatoes.

Cafe de la Escolonia is also a great place to just come for a drink. They specialise with their natural fruit juices. With over twenty three fruits and vegetables to choose from, including star fruit and guayaba, it’s a must!
